San Pedro camping site

CHARACTERIZATION OF SAN PEDRO CAMPING SITE

San Pedro Camping Site belongs to the Popular Camping Enterprise, Artemisa province. It is located in San Pedro Beach, Pablo de la Torriente Brau Community, Bahíahonda municipality, Artemisa province. It limits to the north with the coast, to the south with a private farm plantations, to the east with the Villa MININT, and to the west with the vegetation of weeds and mangroves.

The installation adopted the same name that it had before the triumph of the Revolution. It was called “Potrero San Pedro", whose last domain was registered in favor of the Orozco Sugar Company, which acquired it by means of a purchase and sale deed.

In the year 1959 the farm, where the facility is built, passes into the hands of the Cuban state through forced expropriation. Then these lands were administered by the Agrarian Reform Institute, until sometime later when the aforementioned camping site began to be built. Then it passes into the hands of the Young Communist Union. The installation was founded in 1981 with the aim of developing and promoting the enjoyment and recreation of our revolutionary and hard-working people. At the beginning, these were wooden, guano (palm leaves) and cement floor constructions.

In the year 1999, by Resolution issued by the First Secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist Union, the Popular Camping Enterprise Group was created. And in the year 2010, the change of subordination was authorized to the Popular Camping Enterprise Group and the enterprises that comprise it; formerly belonging to the Young Communist Union and now subordinated to the Ministry of Tourism. Currently San Pedro camping site continues with the subordination to the Ministry of Tourism.

As a result of the remodeling and renovation work that has been carried out on our camping site, now the installations and all the cabins as well, are built of masonry and plate roof in order to offer better comfort to campers. The warehouse and the “ranchones” are the only that remain with guano (palm leaves) roofs.

In 2015, by decision of the state and the government, it was decided to integrate Villa Minaz to the Tourism Ministry to merge it with San Pedro camping site, leaving the composition of the Tourist product as follows:

30 cabins for 6 people
24 cabins for 4 people
8 cabins for 2 people
For a total of 292 capacities for national tourists.

Gastronomy service:
Restaurant services, cafeteria, pizzeria, grill, and kiosk in CUC (a Cuban currency).

Recreation:
Video room, rental game rooms, sports areas, cabin rental, dance floor,
natural baths on the beach.

Assurance: (3 warehouses).

Our Facility has the social purpose of providing accommodation, recreation and gastronomy services to national tourists.

The facility has an approved workforce of 61 workers, of them 56 posts are covered for 91% of completion; 25 are women and 31 men. We also have 8 party members and 2 from the UJC. All of them are affiliated to the trade union organization and incorporated to the defense of the homeland, as well as to the organizations of their places of residence. All of them are also verified and approved for their work with the level of suitability established for it.

The facility is located in a coastal area where sugarcane cultivation predominates. It is characterized by a religious trend of Arara origin, a place where a large number of African blacks, who were brought from Africa to work in the sugar mills, predominated. These traditions came to our facility since it is located in this area. The oldest workers, since the founding of the camping site, were retired. Therefore, every time a new anniversary of the camping site is celebrated, they are invited to the installation to celebrate and tell stories about the changes and transformations that have happened from its foundation to the present day, as well as the awards received since then, and the most relevant events that have occurred. Despite the fact that our facility is built in an area where African religion prevailed, our workers are not religious, because most of them are young people between 30 and 35 years old.
