One of the figures that will give prestige to the Cuban delegation at the Tokyo Olympic Games is the judoka Idalys Ortiz (+78 Kg), who is going with the aim of getting her fourth medal in these events.

Artemiseña won the bronze medal in Beijing in 2008, reached glory in London in 2012 and reached silver in Rio de Janeiro 5 years ago. For the Japanese capital, considered the mecca of Judo, she knows that she did not make the best of preparations.

“She has been excessively atypical, within the possibilities we have had, we prepared quite well. We still have a few days left for the competition, it is true that I have not been able to train like for other tournaments, but I am in a position to fight on the tatami ”.

Idalys arrived at the World Cup in Budapest, Hungary with less than a month of preparation. Asked if she is satisfied with 5th place, she noted:

“I am super pleased. There are always malicious comments and people who do not know the sacrifice that one has to make to obtain a fifth place in a World Cup. This place that I reached was with a pandemic, we did not get to a month of training and I had the ability to discuss the bronze medal. Although the other athletes are also facing the pandemic, they have not stopped training. I commented, if with 3 weeks and a little more preparing I managed to reach the Golden Rule with the main figures of the division, what would have happened with better training ”.

Ortiz has been one of the athletes in our country who suffered from COVID-19. "If she left a sequel I have not realized. I have remained focused on the preparation, perhaps at the beginning it affected me a little in the physical issue, but I am completely recovered ”.

Idalys Ortiz, who will turn 32 next September, is going for her fourth medal in the Olympic Games, something that only three judokas have achieved in the history of this sport, among them is the Cuban Driulis González. “The possibilities are clear, if it weren't here. My goal is to reach another Olympic medal and that there is no doubt about it ”.

The charismatic Idalys revealed to Radio Rebelde that she did leave the tatami after competing in Tokyo. "That nobody knows. With the issue of the pandemic a year ago the Olympics would have been held and she still looks where we are ”.
